How we picked these

The weekend outing with a dog and a stroller is a logistics puzzle, so we judged each place on the practical things that make or break the day: parking close to the entrance, paved paths a buggy can actually roll along, shade where a child can stop before a meltdown, and food you can reach without abandoning the dog. Each pick has been through the real-life test of a family arriving with all three at once, because a place that works for a dog alone can fall apart the moment a pram is added.

Juggling a stroller, a kid and a dog

The difference between a good outing and a fraught one is usually preparation. Pack water for everyone, including a collapsible bowl, keep the dog on a short lead near play areas and other children, and build in rest stops rather than one long march. Divide and conquer helps: one adult on dog duty, one on child duty, swapping as needed. Watch the heat, which tires small legs and paws alike, and favour the cooler ends of the day. A dog that is comfortable around children and buggies makes all of this easier, so early, positive exposure pays off.

Planning the day

Aim for a loop rather than an out-and-back, so a tired child or dog is never far from the car. Check opening times and whether the cafe stop has outdoor seating that takes dogs, and keep the whole thing shorter than you think you need. Browse the full places directory or the map to build your own route close to home. The honest truth of a dog-and-kids weekend is that the outing everyone remembers fondly is usually the shorter, calmer one, not the ambitious itinerary that ends in a meltdown at the car park. Pick one good place, do it well, and leave while everyone still has energy for the drive home.
