Pet insurance in Singapore: compare cover before you buy

A policy should help you care for your dog when life gets expensive. Start with the protection your household needs, then compare what each quotation includes. The cheapest premium and the largest headline limit do not tell the whole story.

How pet insurance works in Singapore

The quotation tells you the premium and chosen plan; the contract defines when it pays. Read the policy wording alongside the schedule, benefit table and endorsements. A claim can depend on the cause of illness or injury, when symptoms began, the treatment performed and the benefit purchased.

Keep funds available for immediate care and your share of the bill. A hospital payment arrangement needs specific confirmation. Do not treat an insurance application, quotation or marketing promise as approval for an operation.

Four things to compare on every quotation

  1. Scope: accident, surgical illness, non-surgical illness, follow-up care and any optional benefits. Ask which situations would receive no payment.
  2. Limits: per incident, per year, lifetime and treatment-specific caps. A headline total may combine separate benefits you cannot interchange.
  3. Your share: deductible, co-payment, calculation order and charges the insurer does not recognise. Request the same sample bill calculation from each provider.
  4. Continuity: waiting periods, entry age, examinations, exclusions, renewal changes and what happens if you switch or miss a payment.

These are verified official starting points, not an exhaustive market ranking. Get an individual quotation before comparing price. We have removed the earlier sample premium bands because their quote evidence was not sufficient to support a current buying decision.

MSIG PawEasy

PawPat, PawRun and PawPlay are the named plans. Non-surgical outpatient cover is optional; the FAQ lists 14 days for injury and 60 days for illness. Its chemotherapy option has a limit that does not reinstate on renewal.

Ask: which options are included in this quote, and which limits renew? Do not assume a surgical plan pays for every hospital admission.

Liberty PetCare

Liberty publishes separate wordings for policies effected before and from 13 August 2026. Its current table distinguishes non-surgical and surgical illness benefits, with different co-insurance. Some plans include a limited wellness benefit.

Ask: which wording applies, what your share is for each benefit, and what the illness exclusions mean for your dog's history.

Income Happy Tails

Furry, Furbulous and Furrific are the current named plans. Specified hereditary cover has entry and waiting-period conditions. Income also advertises a conditional cashless service for scheduled surgery at Beecroft. It is not a promise of cashless treatment everywhere.

Ask: does this treatment qualify, and what happens if surgery is not needed? If you use an intermediary, compare the actual underwriter, wording and selected cover rather than counting the distribution brand as a separate policy.

Tiq by Etiqa

Tiq separates surgical and non-surgical illness benefits. Its complimentary specified congenital and hereditary cover depends on the required clinical examination form and timing, with a 12-month waiting period and pre-existing-condition exclusions. Its FAQ describes a separate form-timing provision for young pets whose blood test is delayed.

Ask: which examination deadline applies to your pet, and whether the required submission has been accepted. Keep the confirmation with your policy.

CIMB My Paw Pal

CIMB's published basic plan is centred on accident benefits, including a stated S$1,500 annual accident medical limit. Additional package choices are listed separately. This is not interchangeable with a policy covering a broader range of illness treatment.

Ask: which package includes the illness protection you want, who underwrites it, and what current premium and limits apply. We have not established a market-wide “cheapest” winner.

When to reconsider a quotation

Pause if the policy excludes the main problem you want help with, the remaining cover is unclear, or the premium leaves too little for day-to-day care and emergency cash. Ask for written answers before paying. That may lead you to different cover, a different provider or a savings plan, rather than buying an unsuitable policy.

Equally, a savings balance cannot cover an emergency bill larger than the amount already set aside. Compare the amount available today, not only the amount you hope to accumulate. Insurance and savings can complement each other; neither guarantees every future bill will be met.

Do not cancel existing cover while assuming a replacement will accept the same history. Establish the new terms and any gap before deciding. Never defer a veterinary assessment in an attempt to avoid a recorded pre-existing condition.

How this page was reviewed

Reviewed on 15 September 2026 against the linked official provider pages, Income's policy conditions and Liberty's wording effective from 13 August 2026. The summaries are selective: the issued contract and individual underwriting decision determine cover. No personalised quotation was obtained for this update.

We do not reproduce unsupported premium estimates, claim a provider is best for every dog, or treat an insurer's comparison of competitors as independent evidence. Product pages can change, so confirm the document version and quotation date before buying.

Use the detailed policy checklist for claim calculations, records to gather and questions about renewal.

Frequently asked questions

Is pet insurance worth it in Singapore?
It depends on the cover offered for your dog and the costs your household could absorb. Compare the premium, exclusions and your share of an eligible bill with your available emergency savings. Insurance transfers some risk; it does not guarantee you will recover more than you pay in premiums.
Does my dog’s existing health history affect what is covered?
Yes. Read the policy definition of pre-existing conditions, including symptoms before diagnosis and related conditions. Disclose the history and ask the insurer to confirm any exclusions in writing. A new policy should not be assumed to cover a problem that has already started.
When should I buy?
Check eligibility when you begin planning your dog’s care. Minimum entry ages, examinations and waiting periods vary. There is no universal rule to buy at 12 weeks or within 30 days of adoption. Never postpone veterinary care to try to obtain cover.
What is co-insurance and excess?
Co-insurance is your percentage share of eligible costs; the excess or deductible is a fixed amount. Their order matters. A hypothetical S$2,000 eligible bill with a S$200 deductible and 20% co-insurance produces S$1,440 if the deductible comes first, or S$1,400 if it comes last. Limits and exclusions may reduce payment further.
Will pet insurance cover hereditary conditions?
Only if the specific policy covers the condition and all eligibility, waiting-period and pre-existing-condition rules are met. A premium plan name does not mean every inherited or breed-associated problem is included.
Do I have to pay the vet first?
Keep funds available for treatment unless your insurer and hospital have confirmed another arrangement. Income advertises a conditional Letter of Guarantee service for scheduled surgery at Beecroft Animal Hospital. It is not automatic cashless access at every clinic, and your share of the bill still applies.
