Plan a visit with your pack

West Coast Park has an officially listed dog run and space for an additional park walk. Check the current park map before setting off: an Area 1 footpath is closed for repairs, with completion expected on 31 December 2026. NParks lists parking charges at all its carparks, so the former free-first-hour claim should not guide your budget. A wash after muddy play may be convenient, but we have not confirmed the current kiosk price, payment method or operation; bring towels and make a backup plan. The earlier claim that no other major run has washing facilities was unsupported. Nor can a quiet session be promised from past anecdotes. Look at the dogs, gates and ground when you arrive and decide whether the run suits your dog that day.

Dog run at west coast park is open now. No more sand pit which my dog enjoys playing in. The original dog run (before these renovations) was much better for dogs to play and explore as it was interesting and bigger with more facilities for visitors. What a pity!

I’d like to provide feedback on the continued delays and, more importantly, the communication surrounding the reopening of the West Coast Dog Run (main section). The original indication was that the dog run would reopen in August. This was later revised to September, and subsequently to November. As of today, 31 December, the dog run remains closed, despite the notice at the gate still stating a completion date of November. I want to be clear that I appreciate the hard work of the construction workers involved - the improvements to the paths, re-turfing, and drainage to prevent water puddling are important and clearly intended to make the space safer and more conducive for users. That effort is not lost on us. However, the public communication has been far from adequate. For users who do not drive, this has real consequences. Some of us take a taxi all the way to West Coast, only to find the dog run still closed, and then have to pay for another trip back. This is both a waste of time and money, and it could easily be avoided with clearer, up-to-date information. At present, there is no reliable way to know the actual status. Online reviews may say the dog run is open, but upon arrival it is not. Should the public really have to depend on crowd-sourced reviews to determine whether a public facility is operational? Delays due to unforeseen circumstances are understandable. What is frustrating is publishing timelines that are repeatedly missed, without timely updates or corrections. Could NParks please consider: - Providing a clear status update on the NParks website, and/or - Posting a pinned update on your official social media channels regarding the West Coast Dog Run’s reopening status? This would go a long way in managing expectations and preventing unnecessary inconvenience. NParks has the capability to do better in this area, and I hope more professional and transparent communication can be implemented moving forward. Thank you.

Yes finally open! Upgraded stone paths. Additional new path built into what was once waterlogged grass. The bins are not installed yet but great space for dogs to explore, run, and do their thing.

Open again after being closed for improvement works for a few months! New fence, extensive drainage and lots of space for happy dogs to run around. Hope to see dogs and their families return to this space

  2. The temporary dog run is set up at the side closer to the port. It is beside the dog run that is currently under renovation. If you are lost, just follow the path the circles back into west coast park.
